First U.S. Winery to Achieve Certification to New International Standard;
One of Only Two U.S. Wineries and Largest Winery in the World to Achieve ISO 9000 Certification

Canandaigua, NY (October 8, 2002) -- Canandaigua Wine, a division of Constellation Brands, Inc. (NYSE: STZ and STZ.B), announces that Mission Bell Winery in Madera, CA has achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification of its quality management system. This globally recognized certification establishes Mission Bell Winery, the world's largest multi-faceted winery, as one of only two U.S. wineries to meet the ISO 9000 quality management standard requirements, and the first U.S. winery to achieve certification under ISO's new and improved ISO 9001:2000 version. It is also the largest winery in the world to achieve this certification.

ISO 9000, a voluntary quality certification process, has become an international quality management standard for more than 500,000 organizations worldwide. The ISO 9000 family of standards, which represent an international consensus on good management practices, also provides organizations with guidelines on what constitutes an effective quality management system. The new ISO 9001:2000 standard was published in December 2000. At the end of 2001, certifications to ISO 9001:2000 accounted for about 8 percent of all ISO 9000 certifications, placing Mission Bell Winery among the leaders across all business sectors.

To achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification, Mission Bell Winery went through a rigorous, one-year quality audit and certification process that involved all areas of production, bottling and distribution. By achieving this certification, Mission Bell Winery has demonstrated its commitment to a quality management system that consistently provides products that meet regulatory requirements, enhances customer satisfaction and ensures continuous improvement.

"Canandaigua Wine is highly committed to a quality management system that improves our business processes and which are in the best interest of the consumer," said Mike Jaeger, president of Canandaigua Wine's Table Wine Division. "By achieving this significant milestone, Mission Bell Winery has demonstrated world class performance and a commitment to maintaining a quality management system that is recognized around the globe."

Benefits of adopting ISO standards include greater efficiencies in operations, which will yield cost savings and improve profitability, as well as enhancements in customer service and related processes. "This has been a demanding process, but well worth the investment of time and resources," said Michael Othites, Canandaigua Wine's Vice President of California Operations. "We are proud of our ISO team leaders and the more than 500 employees at Mission Bell Winery."
